This book is *incredible* - the voice, the range, the style, the depth of clarity and Febos' willingness to lay herself bare so that we can feel less alone. I wanted to highlight almost every sentence, some because they were so gorgeous, some because they were so true, all because they were so deeply and essentially human. I've been waiting for this book for *months* and so my expectations were VERY HIGH and they were SUPERSEDED. Seriously. If you are a human person with a heart who has ever loved a person or had a family or looked at the land, this book will speak to you. <3 Probably the best memoir I've read since 2010. (Spoiler alert, this is not for hyper-conservative types. No judgment but I doubt you'll find what I found among the paragraphs, the acceptance among the prayer--penance?)It was at once encompassing, alarming, and relatable in a human, visceral capacity that I've not found in other works of writing.This is not a book to read when you want to feel happy or like rainbows are just around the next hardship in your life. This is the book to read when you want to feel understood, somewhat raw, and tethered as we all are to each other in a tragic but redeeming way.I will flesh out my thoughts on this book more in the coming days, but know right now that this is a book that will help you understand the world and, likely, yourself.
